H1Z1 is a fast-paced shooter in which players compete in large-scale chaotic PvP of skill, wit, and luck, where all players must fight to the death to stand at the top of the throne.

Z1 Remaster

I was part of the Worlds Team for the Z1 remaster. The team was tasked with revamping the original H1z1 map, "Z1."
Our first task was to evaluate which 3d building assets could be salvaged. Once chosen those assets are imported into Maya so we can adjust and standardized their metrics. Our next task was to revamp the Major POIs (point of interest.) We evaluated the POIs to check if major or minor gameplay flow changes was needed Then assign a Designer Artist duo to said POI. |
Responsibilities as Level Designer
- Created and helped manage list of what assets needed to be remade, revamped, or thrown out
- Modeled grey boxes for level flow and gameplay experience using new design metrics and updating older models to these new metrics
- Updated documentation of models that were ready for implementation into the engine for more play testing
- Once these new/fixed models were implemented, the next step was to revise the POIs (Point of Interest) and try to provide a better gameplay space. This was accomplished by improving level flow, pacing, weapon spawns, sculpting terrain, and layout of the POIs
- After the POI was in good shape, next was set dressing and terrain painting/sculpting for storytelling purposes
- Play tested and provided feedback for other designers areas
